Dr. Nicholson grew up in a small steel-mill town in Steubenville, Ohio, where he spent the first 18 years of his life. Dr. Nicholson then went on to Washington and Jefferson College where he majored in Cellular and Molecular Biology. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Biologic Honor Society.

During his undergraduate years, Dr. Nicholson pursued several areas of research, including cancer cell research at UCLA and pain research in spinal cord stimulation at Ohio Valley Hospital, which lead to a publication in Pain Medicine journal. After graduation, Dr. Nicholson matriculated to the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine where he obtained his Doctorate of Dental Medicine.

Ultimately, his passion and interests for the cellular and molecular mechanisms that drive pain and anxiety led him to pursue training in dental anesthesia. He completed his three-year dental anesthesia residency at NYU Langone Hospital, which provided him with off-site rotations serving the people of Arizona.

Dr. Nicholson also is passionate about serving the special needs population, in part because of experiences shared with his mother who served this population as an educator. Outside his anesthesia career, Dr. Nicholson enjoys playing basketball and relaxing with friends and family.
