Does Mercy Care Cover Dental Care in Arizona?

The Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) administers federal Medicaid health care assistance to low-income individuals and families in the state. AHCCCS provides benefits by partnering with health care providers including health management organizations, health insurance providers, and nonprofit organizations.

One AHCCCS partner is Mercy Care, a non-profit managed care organization. Mercy Care in turn partners with Sun Life, a company that manages dental and vision benefits. DentaQuest is a business under Sun Life that administers dental services for Mercy Care Medicaid plans under AHCCCS.

DentaQuest Administers AHCCCS Benefits Under Mercy Care

DentaQuest is the largest government dental benefits administrator in the United States and, as a primary care provider, provides Medicaid and CHIP dental benefits solutions to its members.

Organizations including DentaQuest that participate under AHCCCS provide full dental care services for children under the age of 21 at no out-of-pocket cost. Adults 21 years old and older are eligible for emergency care services under AHCCCS.

Under AHCCCS, DentaQuest coordinates with dentists who become primary dental care providers or “Dental Homes” for patients under the age of 21. Your child’s dental home is the dentist’s office for services including regular check-ups, cleanings, and other dental treatment, including dental fillings, crowns, root canals, orthodontic treatment, and even oral surgery.

No referral is needed from a primary care provider like DentaQuest to receive treatment at your child’s Dental Home.
